Hong Kong Next Hottest Dining Spot – Central Police Station [Tai Kwun]
Central Police Station Compound “Tai Kwun” should be the next hottest dining spot in Hong Kong. It is the largest heritage conservation project in HK with arts, heritage and dining elements. It is soon to be open for public visit. Let’s take a look of new restaurants inside this heritage compound.
After 10 years of planning and revitalization works, the Former Central Police Station Compound, called “Tai Kwun” (大館), will soon open for public by end of May. It will become the hottest dining and leisure scene in Hong Kong soon.
Dining is one of the main themes for “Tai Kwun”. A number of F&B operators submitted tenders of the F&B leasing spaces there in 2014.
The opening schedule of “Tai Kwun” was once delayed due to the sudden collapse of a partial building in the Compound in 2016.
Later this year, restaurants and bars in “Tai Kwun” will start operation. Together with regular arts exhibitions and heritage events, “Tai Kwun” will be one of the must visit places in Hong Kong.
Leasing Area in “Tai Kwun” for Food & Beverage Use
According to plan of “Tai Kwun”, around 26,000 s.f. of floor spaces are designated for Food & Beverage use.
Interested F&B operators are required to go through strict selection procedures, which includes a number of selection criteria:
- Background and experience (25%)
- Operation strategy (50%)
- Commitment to the revitalisation of the Central Police Station Compound (25%)
In 2015, a batch of F&B operators were selected to be tenants of “Tai Kwun”. These operators finally took over the site last month and started renovation now.
“Tai Kwun” is located at the junction of Hollywood Road and Old Bailey Street. A new footbridge is being built to connect the Soho Escalator to “Tai Kwun”, which will facilitate the accessibility for visitors and link up traffic from Soho Central.
