More about Russell Street

Russell Street (羅素街) is a street in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.

It is a commercial shopping street with the most expensive rental in the world. Restaurants, cafes and bars all go upstairs instead.

Russell Street is an east-west running street with two sections. It starts from Lee Garden Road, split by Matheson Street and Percival Street, and ends in Canal Road East.

With the blessings of its convenient location, Russell Street is one of the most crowded streets in Hong Kong. A guaranteed traffic to shops and restaurants.

Russell Street is named after James Russell who was a colonial official and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong. He was praised as one of the most hard-working official and died at early age of 50.

The street used to be a traditional Chinese wet market in older Hong Kong days. Russell Street was once a tram depot which was shut down and demolished. The site of Russell Street was then reconstructed into Times Square.

Times Square is a major shopping centre and office tower complex on Russell Street in Causeway Bay. Its video wall in the piazza is a landmark in Hong Kong where is one of the major spots for countdowns in New Year Eve.

Hakata Ippudo is one of the earliest Japanese Ramen shop located upstairs on Russell Street. Its key ingredient is the slow-cooked pork bone soup, together with ramen and toppings.
