Wellington Street (威靈頓街) is a one-way street located in Central and Sheung Wan., Hong Kong.
It stretches from Wyndham Street to Queen’s Road Central. Named after Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington.
The two sides of Wellington Street is a combination of old and new buildings, as well as residential and commercial blocks. A variety of trades can be found on the street level. Street markets can be found in the adjacent lanes.
The street is located at the bottom of Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island and next to Queen’s Road Central which serves as one of the main roads through the central business district.
Wellington Street ends westwards at the end of Central and the beginning of Sheung Wan. A busy foodie street in core Central.
The street houses many shops on ground level and offices above. Notable businesses on Wellington Street include restaurants and bars. Some of them are must-go tourist spots too.
Yung Kee is a Chinese restaurant located on Wellington Street. It is most famous of its roast goose. Well-known in China, Hong Kong and Macau. Some tourists take a box of goose on flight back home, giving rise to the nickname of “Flying Roast Goose”.
Mak’s Noodle is a traditional Cantonese restaurant on Wellington Street, specialising in wonton noodles. One of the best in Hong Kong!
Lin Heung Tea House is a two-storey Chinese restaurant located at the junction of Wellington Street and Aberdeen Street. It serves traditional Chinese dim-sum on traditional trolleys with tally cards. Rare in Hong Kong now.
Tsui Wah Restaurant is a local restaurant (Cha Chuan Teng) on Wellington Street. It opens 24 hours, close to Lan Kwai Fong and hence attracts celebrity and tourists after hangover.
Wellington Street is also a foodie street of takeaway, noodle shops and cafes. During lunch and dinner hours, it’s usual to have lines of crowds waiting outside the restaurants for seating.
