More about Pottinger Street

Pottinger Street (砵甸乍街) is a street in Central, Hong Kong. It is also called  “Stone Slabs Street” (石板街) since the street is paved by granite stone steps.

The street sits between Queen’s Road Central and Hollywood Road, connecting to Stanley Street and Wellington Street. It ends at the west of Hollywood Road, meeting with Wyndham Street.

In the colonial period, Pottinger Street was the invisible line dividing Chinese and Western residents. Back then, Chinese people lived west of the street and Westerners stayed to the east.

Today, Pottinger Street is popular with party-goers or people looking for costumes, face masks, and accessories. Pottinger Street and its neighbouring streets are prime locations for bars and restaurants with great foodie traffic.

Due to expensive rent on Queen’s Road Central, some F&B operators take their shop upstairs.

Ta Vie is an upstair Michelin’s star French-Japanese restaurant on Stanley Street.

A couple of starred chefs also take their venues upstairs. Examples include Arcane Restaurant by celebrity chef Shane Osborn, or ON Dining by starred chef Philippe Orricco.

Upstairs space with terrace is also the choice of many bar operators. Honi Honi Tiki Lounge, one of the best bars in Hong Kong and 50 Best in Asia, is also upstairs on Wellington Street.

Former Central Police Station Complex “Tai Kwun” is a revitalized heritage project funded by Hong Kong Jockey Club. It is a landmark on Wyndham Street. Officially opening in summer 2018, “Tai Kwun” is set out to be a hotspot of heritage, art, and dining.
