More about Old Bailey Street
Old Bailey Street (奧卑利街) is a street in Central, Hong Kong. It is named from the Old Bailey, the Central Criminal Court in Central London.
Victoria Prison, the first prison in Hong Kong, was built on Old Bailey Street in 1841. It was closed by late 2005 and no longer in use. But the old Victoria Prison still stands on Old Bailey Street.
In 2010, Hong Kong Jockey Club started a heritage-led plan called “Tai Kwun” to conserve and revitalize the Central Police Station and transform it into a centre of heritage, arts and leisure.
“Tai Kwun” includes 3 declared monuments of the former Central Police Station, the Central Magistracy and the Victoria Prison. Old Bailey Street is located opposite to Victoria Prison.
In 2016, during the ongoing revitalization, part of the married inspectors’ quarters collapsed. Completion schedule of the revitalization of Former Police Station Compound is thus postponed.
Restaurants and bars on Old Bailey Street are built on slope. It intersects at Hollywood Road and Staunton Street. In between of core Central and Soho.
The Flying Pan, a restaurant selling all-day’s breakfast. It is one of the first restaurants in Hong Kong to open 24 hours. A great place to wake you up after hangover!
Waygu Lounge, little brother of Wagyu on Wyndham Street, is also tucked away on Old Bailey street. Technically, Wagyu Lounge is a restaurant, but at night it turns into a bar place with expats.
Chilli Fagara, a Chinese restaurant with chic décor, is famous of “ma la” sauce dishes. It is well known of hot cuisines in Szechuan cooking way.
