More about Star Street

Star Street (星街) is a street in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Wan Chai is a metropolitan area situated at the western part of the Wan Chai District and Northern coastline of Hong Kong Island.

The region of Star Street, Moon Street and Sun Street was the original site of the first power station in Hong Kong, operated by the Hongkong Electric Company, which has began supplying power to Hong Kong Island since 1890.

Wan Chai was once first home to many Chinese villagers along Queen’s Road East which is in proximity to current Hung Shing Temple.

By the 1850s, the area was already becoming a Chinese residential area. There were dockyards on Ship Street and McGregor Street for building and repairing ships.

Starting in 1988, Swire Properties, the developer of Pacific Place, started acquiring property in Starstreet Precinct where is a neighborhood comprising Star Street, Moon Street, Sun Street and Wing Fung Street.

Having acquiring a large number of properties around Star Street, Swire started transforming the area into a commercial neighborhood. Pacific Place Three is the landmark of a grade A office by Swire. They also retained ownership of shops, carparks and service apartments.

Star Street and Wing Fung Street are one of the favourable spots by Western restaurants and bars.

Giando, an Italian restaurant by celebrity chef Gianni Caprioli, is relocated from Fenwick Pier to Star Street, where was formerly by another restaurant The Principle.

Elephant Grounds, a coffee shop by Clot, has its new shop on Wing Fung Street, close to Queen’s Road East.
